Your point is well taken, and that "or equivalent in the judgment of the Selection Official, with oversight by the Board)" (or words to that effect) is already in the proposal. ...
Have a look...

Oooh, my bad - that's what I get for simply reacting to your brief summary in the post, and not reading the actual document! Sorry! A lesson...

Just for the record, I'm opposed to minimum age limits. Alexander the Great/Caesar/Edison/Newton... Were all accomplished young men! But I suppose there is no chance of changing anyones minds here. Personally, I don't think it is our problem if some people will be offended by working alongside younger people in the Ed. Council. To be honest, I'd rather not have people with such sentiments onboard this project.

I don't think anyone really disagrees, Denis, but the problem is that the superficial (sometimes ridiculous) external measure of "age equating to knowledge and maturity" is still alive and well in the world outside of the Citizendium, and Larry has identified some of those external influences that will affect us whether we like it or not.

Unfortunately I don't think we can really argue against it; it would truly be a "versus the world" fight.

I agree with you, Denis. Bureaucratic formalism stifles innovation and automatically privileges "established" people over their younger rivals. When younger people are able to benefit from the superior knowledge of their elders, this is a different thing: from my point of view there are quite enough older people (including mysefl) already running the show on CZ, so a small injection of youthful viewpoints is likely to benefit, rather than hinder, issues of governance.

Even looking around here, the 'young' are overall quite under-represented. There is myself, Chunbum, Yu, and then a few other relatively recent graduates or postgrads, like Todd, Robert or Joe. At the end of the day, it is college students who will be most attracted to citizendium both as a reference point but also as a place to write stuff that helps both their studies and have the chance to be corrected by an expert in their field. Its almost like free tuition.

Experts will always be a minimum here, as the incentive for activity is with the College students. For experts its a hobby, for students its actually helping their studies. /rant.

I'm not so sure 28 is asmuch considered "young" as it is "depressing", being that much closer to 30.

Hah! There are those of us here who'd give our eyeteeth (if we still have them :-) to be 30! :-)

Hardly the most underrepresented group--quit complaining!

Hmmm...bit of a problem for an expert-guided project, wouldn't you say?
