This is a piece of political correctness and a waste of time.

As a proposal, yes. But if you're writing an article about archaeology or religious studies, I'd definitely use CE/BCE. It's a small token of consideration that many people will appreciate. In user interface design there's the "principle of least surprise". Maybe something similar (the principle of least offense) applies here.

As a technical solution we could use YA, 'Years ago'. We could make a template with 3 fields. 1. the time of posting the article (filled automatically by the system using a timestamp). 2. The accuracy you need the time expressed in e.g. years, months, decades, centuries or millennia. 3. The number of years ago the even happened. Might looks something like:

{{yearsago|timestamp|years|200}}

The system can then automatically update the number of years for us. But really, I'm joking. I don't think there's really anyone who gets offended by any date naming system.

P.S. Is it millenniums of millennia. Google spell check complains about millennia but I though that was the correct plural.

Do they have a list of erratums where you can make note of this? Grin
