GNU's Not Linux

« on: April 12, 2007, 10:39:45 AM »

Please take a look at the GNU/Linux controversy article. I believe it's basically finished, but I could use some input before I change the status to 1.  Smiley

Thanks,

Josh

For the record, there's a lot involved in approval beyond just checking a box.  Check the policies, but it involves at least 2 editors, about 2 days at a minimum, and a lot of discussion and compromising.  It's certainly a process we can start, but it's not a quick process, and it's not a unilateral process.

On the topic of the article itself, I feel like it could use more structure.  It's hard to quantify exactly what's wrong with it, but it reads like a lecture instead of an article.  Images are obviously hard to come by for an article like this.

I see that you have taken hold of the GNU/Linux issues. As I spend a lot of time and energy on this (even though I am here mostly as a historian), I would like it if we could try to establish a consensus on how we do this - I see that you are quite aware of the Linux vs. GNU/Linux vs. Linux distribution issue.
I am mostly in favor of simply redirecting "Linux" to the disambiguation page.
