Hi I'm a frenchguy. In my country I heard some news about "the new concurrencor of wikipedia". All I read on internet talk about their rivality. The facts are that :
- Wikipedia has the advantage of the dynamism due to his millions of contributors
- Citizendium has only the advantage of the reliability

Thus, as we all want a reliable and complete encyclopedia on the web, why not to ally these two ?
Wikipedia could be used as a source, as a tremplin, for the articles of citizendium, which sould be selected for their reliability by the experts of CZ, and modified by them if it is necessary, which need less time than to write again articles that already exist.
The solution is to use some kind of pyramidal method to select the information and by this way to keep in citizendium the dynamic side of wikipedia. In this case, wikipedia would be a kind of experience ground for new articles, written by anyone.

Concurrence is only good for companies that want to make MONEY. Work together is much more efficient than work against each other.

P.S. I desagree with the idea of beeing forced to give our name on a forum if we want to post on it. A forum isn't an encyclopedia. Although it's very interesting and full of good prospectives, the project of CITIZENdium reminds me a bit the nazi, who gave the status of citizen only the persons they wanted. I am a jew ?

Can't believe this post has had 120 views and that mine is the first reply! This French guy has it cold (that's slang I picked up somewhere for "I am in agreement with this person's sentiments")! I'm thinking about trying develop a relationship between the WP (WK in French!) Molecular and Cell Biology WikiProject and its CZ analogue because I think it's foolish to pretend WP content is poor quality and all needs to be rewritten. There are some very good articles, and assimilatiing the right ones at the right time could optimise our work considerably.

As for the Nazi connotations of CZ... I'm not with you on that one! CZ will give the status of "citizen" to anyone who will contribute effectively to the project and this involves giving our names (it's a reliability issue). I can't actually remember how I ended up registering to the forum with this username, but I'm pretty sure it was in some way, someone else's fault. I'm sure a constable will be along soon enough to change it or else I'll register again.

You can post all you want with a pseudonym in the non-members forum. To post in the members forums, just go into your forums profile and there is a place to make your real name display without making a new account.

I agree and have commented on this before http://forum.citizendium.org/index.php/topic,323.0.html.  It is a false dicotomy to pit wikipedia against citizendium, in many ways they are complimentary.

The forum software has a tendency to over-count.  The "Views" number is also vulnerable to search engine spidering.  It's not a precise number, and should only be used in comparison to "view" numbers for other topics as a way to measure popularity, not as an absolute accurate count.  I'm not denying that a lot of people looked at the topic without replying, but I'm skeptical that it was 120.

I'm sorry, can you elaborate on what's wrong with your account?

Thanks for the insight.

There's nothing wrong with my account anymore. I did have the display name "seans potato business" but Stephen Ewen let me know how to change it so all is well. Right now it says 'Sean Smith', but by the time you read this, it should say 'Sean T. Smith' (to bring it inline with my CZ ID).
