First, let me thank Chris for setting up the private forum board that I asked for.. I will no longer use the mc-cz mail list at all as he suggested.

I agree with Chris that we should publish any of our decisions on an MC Announcement page on the main Wiki (if I understand him correctly). The only decisions we have made so far are (again if I am correct):

(1) Selection of Russell as our MC chairman
(1) Appointment of Matt Innis as CC
(2) Appointment of Ruth Ifcher as an Emeritus CC
(3) Provided a channel for the CC, the ME and the Ombudsman to send us messages

Did I miss anything? Chris, if we go that route, who will set up the MC Announcement page on the main wiki? If he's not too busy, would Russell do it?

I also agree with Chris that, now that we have a public forum board and a private forum board, that is enough and we don't need to publish anything on the Wiki other than announcing decisions made by the MC.

NOTE: The MC found the private mailing list we had set up was too unwieldy. So a private forum board was set up and we will essentially no longer use the private mail list.

A resolution authorizing the use of CZ resources for a wiki for the EC has been approved.

The Citizendium wishes to bring you up-to-date regarding our technical and financial situation.  In the process of implementing the new governance of CZ last week, it has come to light that the financial situation of the project is not as sound as we had thought it to be.  The CZ Management Council (MC) has begun procedures for routine backing up of all of CZ's many applications and anticipate no loss of data, although this is a time-consuming task and will take many days to complete.  We encourage all members to continue to participate on CZ and the Forums in the usual manner.  The MC has begun to look at new funding options, including a fund-raising campaign, but there are many logistics with this to work out, such as, IRS reporting requirements.

We are also looking at cost-cutting measures to bring our hosting and technical expenses in line with the scope and scale of our community.  We know our current technical specifications, but given our situation, we’ll need to figure out the minimum technical specifications upon which we can operate.  Once we know our bare requirements, we can make informed decisions about hosting.  Acting prematurely could hurt us more than help us, as the people we contact may be put off by the lack of understanding we have right now about our own product.

We are fully aware that there are people within the community who may be able to help, and we have already discussed possibilities with them.  We will continue to take advantage of the expertise you have to offer when we can.

Here are the results of the June 2011 election as certified by the Management Council:

Pat Palmer, Larry Sanger, and David E. Volk are elected to seats on the Management Council.  They will take their seats starting on July 1. 

Referenda proposals A, B, D, and E were passed by the required two-thirds majority.  These referenda are deemed now to be official parts of the CZ Charter.  The Charter page will be updated shortly by the Management Council.

Congratulations to those elected and many thanks to all those who participated and voted.

The MC has just passed the following motion:

The Management Council thanks Russell Jones, Chris Key and Joe Quick for their service on the council. Without their participation, many important issues would have remained unattended. The Council especially thanks Russell Jones for remaining in his position when in May he expressed a desire to resign. If he had not remained, the project would have been thrust into a constitutional crisis that had the potential of destroying the embryonic charter based system of governance.

The appeal by Howard Berkowitz of his permanent ban is denied on grounds of failure to provide a defense. After being informed of MC passed motion 2011-033 (15 July 2011), he provided no arguments in his defense by the deadline given him by the Management Council (22 July 2011).

The Management Council just passed the following motion (2011-036, 26 July 2011):

The Management Council thanks Milton Beychok for his outstanding contributions to Citizendium, both as a member of the Management Council and as the first Citizendium Treasurer. Without his efforts creating and running our first donation drive, Citizendium would not have had the financial resources to continue operation. We look forward to his continued contributions as both an author and editor.
