Why is literature part of humanities and not arts?

Am I being stupid, is this normal in academia?

Because the categories overlap.

And (I think) overlaps will be the way things will be when the dust settles.

Yep, but the question is what to do about that...

Here's a thought (which, perhaps ought to go elsewhere): what if each article had "formal" categories, and then a link to a page of "fuzzy" categories, each of which would have to be approved by editors but would allow broader definition. So, for instance, a politician might have "formal" categories like Minister for X, biography etc and a "fuzzy" category of "war crimes because he/she has been cited for such in a country/ies where he/she is unlikely to face prosecution.  Editors for such an article would accept "war crimes" but reject the category "fascist" because he/she wasn't a member of a Fascist party.  CZ users could then explore using either "formal" or "fuzzy" categories, knowing that when they do go "fuzzy" that is exactly what it is.
