I have done a little editing in the Golden Ratio article, and would like to add to the article some explanatory images from Wikimedia Commons.

Doing  this sort of thing is really getting out of my depth for computer skills. I did manage to upload one image
http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Image:99px-Golden_Rectangle_Construction_004.png
but it seems to be a thumbnail only. What did I do wrong? The original image on Wikimedia Commons is here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Golden_Rectangle_Construction.svg

Thanks.

Hi, Malcolm,

Welcome aboard!  To conform to our rules for participants in these Forums, we need to have your profile easily accessible by anyone who reads one of your messages. Since there are always new people joining our discussions who may not be familiar with you and your background, we want to help them be able to make some sort of initial judgment about how much credence/deference/respect/belief/etc./etc. to give to what you are posting.

So please follow these easy steps to create your Forum signature:

1.) Go to the little tab in the top middle-left of this page that says PROFILE and click on it
2.) Then go to MODIFY PROFILE on the left side of the screen and click on "Forum Profile Information"
3.) From there scroll on down to the bottom of the screen to the box where it says Signature
4.) Put in something more or less like:

          My CZ user page: http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/User:Your_CZName

(you can leave out the "My CZ user page:" if you like)

5.) Then click on "Change profile" at the very right-hand bottom of the screen.

Thanks!

Maybe you saved (and then uploaded) one of the thumbnail images in the "File History" section rather than the main image at the top of the Wikimedia Commons page?

I re-uploaded the file, and it should work now.

Malcolm:

There a number of things which you did incorrectly:

(1) CZ does not accept svg images. If you look at Commons page for the svg  image  that you referred us to (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Golden_Rectangle_Construction.svg), just below the main image at page top, there are links to four png versions: 200px, 500px, 1000px and 2000px sizes. Click on one of those, copy it to your computer and then upload it to CZ.
(2) It is not enough to simply state "Commons" as the source. You should include the actual url of the Commons page for the  png version you select in (1) above.
(3) The CZ upload template (or Wizard) asks for the country of first publication (or to state that you don't know) ... which you did not provide.
(4) The CZ upload template asks you to provide a credit line and it gives you a link to instructions on how to do that ... which you also did not provide.

I know that seems like a lot of "make work" but there are good reasons for for providing the items asked for.

I see that Daniel re-uploaded the 99px png version for you. If you want me to upload one of the larger versions for you, please tell me which size you want and I will be happy to do it.

Thanks to all for the explanations and for the help, which are very much appreciated. Getting things to work for me on the computer is always a rather slow process. If I make mistakes in these things, I appreciate having them pointed out.

Hopefully Milton, Daniel, and Shamira made things clearer for you. There's not much more I can add, except that if you are still having trouble, simply post links to the images here, or on my talk page, and I can upload them for you.
