News: POSTING RULES FOR MAIN CZ BOARDS: (1) The CZ Forums are Citizens-only (a "Citizen" is a Citizendium member). Non-Citizens may use only the "Non-member discussion" and "General help" boards, but still must register before posting (it's easy!). Non-Citizen posts elsewhere will be summarily deleted. (2) All must now use their own real names. To edit your displayed name, click on Profile > Account Related Settings. (3) Citizens must now link to their CZ user pages. Author Topic: A test by a Constable of this non-membership site in the Forum (Read 2152 times)

A gentleman who is a non-Citizen just had trouble getting into this Forum. The trick is that one must Register first -- it took me a while to figure that out. Now I've registered as "Hayford tester" and am testing the whole process to make sure I know what I'm talking about, always a dubious proposition, hehe....

addendum:

Well, I guess that his original problem was that he couldn't start a New Topic. You've gotta be registered in order to do that. I dunno if a non-registered person can just write a comment in a Topic that is already underway....

As the person who ran into this problem, may I suggest that the instructions at the top of the forum (i.e., News: POSTING RULES FOR MAIN CZ BOARDS) indicate that for Non-Citizens to post on the "Non-member discussion" and "General help" board they must first register (and perhaps indicate that registering is simpler than becoming a Citizendium member).

Yes, that's my feeling too. I'll see if I can find somebody who knows how to do this.

I can't give you exact instructions as I'm not a forum admin, but you can post and edit "news" from the admin section of the forum.

How do I get into the Administrative section in order to edit?

I changed it to read:

POSTING RULES FOR MAIN CZ BOARDS: (1) The CZ Forums are Citizens-only (a "Citizen" is a >Citizendium member). To edit your signature, click on Profile > Forum Profile Information. Click here to return to the wiki

I added the

, but still must register before posting (it's easy!).

I'm still not clear on this -- do ALL Citizens who use the Forums have to use their real names AND all non-Citizens who are posting in the non-Citizens areas? In the past, most, or at least, many of the people who aren't Citizens have just used nicks -- remember "harebrained" and the long arguments about his nick?

If non-Citizens are supposed to use their real names, how do know that they are really Bill Smith and not Bob Jones, the name they might use to register with?

It says real names. Don't make me verify them.

Okay, that's clear enough.

But let's say that someone named Bill Smith registers as MemphisGuy, say, and starts a new topic? Do you or I then obliterate that thread as soon as we notice it? Or just him and his post, or what? Try to get him to change his registered name?
