I probably should already know this, but I don't. Many organizations have downloadable image libraries, intended for the press and such to use without prior permission, but that must retain their copyright line. Do we have a license category that covers this, which is quite common in news media use?

Given all the material on Avogadro's Number, I thought it only fitting to have something on Avocados, and the California Avocado Board has such a download caveat.

Is there something equally tasty associated with Loschmidt?

Prime Minister, you can't take the bull by the horns if you're grasping the nettle. I mean, if you grasped the nettle with one hand, you could take the bull by one horn with the other hand, but not by both horns because your hand wouldn't be big enough, and if you took a bull by only one horn it would be rather dangerous because...' Howard, that is exactly the same question I asked of Caesar a few days ago ... and yes there is a license for that. See his response to me at here.

I then followed his instructions and they worked quite well.

It's quite simple if you follow the instructions and answer the questions...  Grin

1 - I am not the copyright holder.
2 - The work is from a source which permits reuse.
3 - Other (not Flickr or Wikimedia)
4 - Copyrighted - but no re-usage restrictions except must attribute to author.

I don't mind trying to simplify it further, but I actually can't think of a way other than possibly merging the last two steps.
Any suggestions as to how you would like to see this simplified?

Stephen: That Promo-Photo license is interesting. But in many cases, when an image is not going to be used to "promote" a subject, then it seems to me that Caesar's "Copyrighted - but no re-usage restrictions except must attribute to author" is more appropriate.

There's also http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Template:Implied_license

I derived the concept of an "implied license", and that exact term, from the lawyer who wrote this book: http://www.amazon.com/Fair-Use-Free-Permission-Copyrights/dp/1581154321/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246000599&sr=8-1

She discussed it in context of legally advising an author who used photos of baseball players from the team websites in a book about their stats and so forth.

Just another option to consider.
