Meetups revisited

I like the idea of a meetup, but as it stands there don't appear to be anymore than 30 or so active users, very few of which live near one another.

However, with a group so small perhaps we could pick a nice place to visit and everyone could take a couple of days off for a vcation. If we could get all the active users to show up, we'd be doing great.

As for getting everyone there, most active users are retired with degrees, and have a fairly steady supply of money coming in. But for those who don't have a steady supply of money perhaps we could borrow from the donations to get people to the meeting?

As for the place, I nominate my humble city of Honolulu. If we ever get this off the ground, I could stir up some publicity for the event with the local news agencies, and seriously, what better place for a vacation than Hawaii?

I don't think we are ready for Citimania yet, and anything with multiple international traffic to Hawaii is going to have a huge ecological footprint anyway.

But I am considering to propose a scientific session on expert involvement for Wikimania 2010 in Gdansk, and others could probably join via video conferencing, live blogging or some such.
