Apropos of giving credit, I wonder if we might consider something analogous to New Draft of the Week, for New Contributor Recognition. Talk page comments sometimes just tell people what they are doing wrong, which, sadly, is sometimes appropriate when agendas are driven.

I'd propose something to go onto the Welcome page, with the caveat that the nominated individual needs to accept the nomination. I'd avoid voting, but more a consensus recognition.

Examples of the moment: Drew R. Smith and Peter Schmitt.

Prime Minister, you can't take the bull by the horns if you're grasping the nettle. I mean, if you grasped the nettle with one hand, you could take the bull by one horn with the other hand, but not by both horns because your hand wouldn't be big enough, and if you took a bull by only one horn it would be rather dangerous because...' I have started a similar thread at http://forum.citizendium.org/index.php/topic,2733.0.html

Wow, I didn't think I'd be an example of someone who would get this honor. I have always felt my work was mediocre at best.

Anyway, I think it should be open to all contributors, with an emphasis on newbies.

Expect? To borrow from the wisdom of Monty Python, "no one ever expects the Spammish Inquisition".

There have been a few Citizendium authors who created a featured article, and, at least in one case, where I sent some encouragement. I'm not quite prepared to recommend a Citizendium cheerleader squad, but I'll merely note that different sorts of things will encourage a student (at different levels), an academic, a professional (giving back), and a retiree. Just to offer myself, I consider myself a professional giving back, but underemployed -- it's a way to keep up my skills.

Let's not bother with this idea. If someone is actively contributing, chance is that his/her articles will be approved or nominated anyways.
