I should like to solicit opinions on my initial draft of a new, improved(?), simplified upload wizard, here.
(It doesn't actually do anything yet, it's just an idea...)
It probably looks best with Pinkwich5 at present; I haven't bothered optimising it for Monobook yet.

Looks better to me than the existing one.

I think it is an improvement and I like it.

Short, sweet, simple, at-a-glance page.  What's not to love?

Good! I'll carry on working on it then.

Please also see a possible alternative (even simpler) first step here, after receiving comments from Paul Wormer.

I successfully uploaded a gizzard with the wizard. Not terribly tasty, though; avian influenza and all that.

Prime Minister, you can't take the bull by the horns if you're grasping the nettle. I mean, if you grasped the nettle with one hand, you could take the bull by one horn with the other hand, but not by both horns because your hand wouldn't be big enough, and if you took a bull by only one horn it would be rather dangerous because...' Caesar, the alternative certainly is simpler. I assume the next step will provide more options for the user??

Yes, it would. But I think it might be overly simplified, since more steps means the process will take longer... I'll think about the design a bit more and possibly come up with something between the two.

I prefer the first simplification, not the really stripped-down one - precisely because loading a new page takes longer than skimming over the options available at the two uppermost hierarchical decision levels.

Yes, I agree in principle, Daniel - though it may be that just one extra step is OK.

But anyway, everyone, please look at the second one again and try clicking on the "I am the copyright holder" option, and let me know what you think...

I definitely like the second one better.

If CZ pages would load as fast as those on other wikis (including the big one), I wouldn't mind additional clicks but here, I would really try to avoid them.

Alas, I do not upload images all too often , so I will not insist. And if the  process is streamlined, perhaps I can prepare all the files offline and let a bot do the upload...

Daniel is sure right when he says that CZ pages load slowly. They take so long to load that it becomes very frustrating at times. Can anyone explain why the slowness?

I would guess that the subpages system slows down the loading of articles a lot, but I don't know why simple pages like the upload wizard should be slow unless it's due to a problem with the server(s).
Actually, I haven't been having much of a problem with pages loading slowly.
