Shall we open the history forum with a few introductions?

I'm a British building historian, who contributed a bit to Wikipedia. I wasn't among the most active there, and I'm afraid I haven't done a thing here yet. The launch caught me at a busy period. But I'm glad to be here and hope to contribute in the future.

Greetings.

My name is Dana Lutenegger, and my interests are Chinese history, language, and culture.  I realize that these three interests are somewhat interdisciplinary, and wasn't sure where I should go.  For now, though, I will start here, and help out elsewhere if needed.

I'm Ori. Interested in medieval history but knows a bit about other periods too (especially with regards to economic aspects).

Well, I'm Hans...I'm prolly the youngest one of you, at 15, but Larry said age didn't matter, so here I am. Like Ori here, I am interested in Medieval history, but more on the war side, and I am more into World War II history, I especially like things dealing with secret service.

So far I have extremely edited one article, The Black Cat Track, and I am working on and article on Lieutenant General Sir Stanley George Savige an Australian General in World War II, and a War hero from WW1.

and oh yes, I LOVE Viking history, being of Viking descent.

Just wanted to leave a brief hullo to the history editors/authors here . . . my home 'turf' is English but I also study the history of Arctic exploration.  My articles on Sir John Franklin and Minik Wallace will link here, happy to have input from all ...  cheers,

I am James Hare, and I'm even younger! (But only by a few months). My favorite thing to study in history is the classical antiquity: Ancient Rome and Greece. I also like biochemistry. Not much to say about me.

This whole project is really cool in the way that (apart from the articles) it brings people of all ages together to work on something that can be shared among all. I know that in my school, some clubs are dominated mostly by a group of people (usually the seniors), but in this there is a large range of people who share the same goals. Smiley

And not to mention that the young people here in high school and college aren't vandals or anything (at least I would hope not) so can (hopefully) share in the trust of all other members.

Yeah, it seems that the community is going to benefit from a slight raising of the bar this early.

I'm Zachary Pruckowski, a sophomore at the University of Virginia.  I've done some historical interpreting at historical sites here in the US, but I'm a CompSci major, so I don't know how much I'll be helping in the history department.

oh ok, sorry, I was gone for a few days...thanksgiving and all...

wow James, even younger than me...at the start when I applied to be an author, I was afraid of being rejected for lack of experience...this is really cool.

I am withdrawing from Citizendium because of the racist and sexist sentiments expressed by Larry Sanger, who claims that the disciplines of Ethnic Studies and Gender Studies do not belong in the list of top level categories, or as individual categories at all in Citizendium.  Sanger has unilaterally decided that all race and gender topics should be split up under traditional disciplinary headings, so that there will be a sub-group of "African American Literature," and "African American History," but no category -- at any level -- in African American studies, and he embraces the same tactic of fragmenting Gender Studies.  The fact that his broad strokes of exclusion primarily effect women and minority scholars does not seem to matter to him.

Once again, this is a case of a white male scholar with no experience in either race or gender studies legislating, with broad strokes, how those disciplines will be represented in an academic endeavor he hopes will be of major importance. He does it with no regard for the current state of scholarship in those fields, or the expertise of their practitioners -- an irony in an academic endeavor that claims to rely on expertise for its authority.  Expertise apparently only counts if it agrees with the naive opinions of the untutored white man in charge.

Frankly, I am embarrassed to have had anything to do with CZ and I will be publicly critiquing Sanger's policy in various venues. I hope that all supporters of race and gender studies will join with me in boycotting CZ, and with protesting Sanger's decision.

Hello I am Nobs01.  My background is in 19th century Central European history, then twentieth century glogal history.  Since the end of the Cold War I have been drawn to Islamic and Chineese subjects; however since Wikipedia, I have relapsed into the pre-Cold War era revisionist area.  I am the founder of WikiProject:Cold War history.  However I was banned for opening the VENONA project can of worms which led to a crisis in Jewish Identity politics.  So I now am beginning to chronicle Wikipedia's sad affair cause somebody has to boil all that garbage they produce down to something that may have some meaning someday.

My historical expertise is largely in diplomatic, espionage, and military subjects.  I consider myself a "purist", I do not approach historical texts with preconcieved ideas of how it should be shaped.  I do not give a crap, i.e. same as a rat's tail, for ideological politics and/or disputes, and avoid them like the plague.  I regard views of human existence based upon the Left/Right Political Spectrum Theory as a terminal disease worse than AIDS and will not handle them even with rubber gloves or protective clothing.

So, I got nothing to sell here, just looking for a good time.
