Hey,

I saw a mistake in the article for liver and wanted to correct it. Logging in was a right pain--the site didn't accept my password, which I was very very sure was the right one, and when I requested a new password it didn't take that one either at first. On third or fourth attempt it took that password and offered me to return to the Liver article, where I found myself logged out. So I decided to shift refresh the page in the hope to poke the system into remembering me. No luck. I logged in again and this time managed to return to the Liver article logged in. So I clicked edit intro and found myself in a non-logged in view source screen. So I logged in for the fourth time. Finally I saw the edit screen. I made my tiny little edit, submitted it... and got an error message that I wasn't logged in. This is where I gave up.

I'd love for the citizendium to take off, but things like this really eat up the goodwill of volunteers. For me right now Citizendium is a niche-wikipedia: whenever I want to read about a medical topic I come here expecting an article that explains the subject much better than WP does. I've yet to find an actually useful article for me outside of that niche, but inside the medicine niche the Citizendium really shows what it could be.

Uhm. Off-topic. So, yeah. Login system. Something's wonky.

(I finally made the edit work, btw, by hard refreshing the error page and choosing to send the information a second time.)

Hi Daniel,

Glad to see that you managed to make the edit!

Dunno about the logging-in problem.  I've never had any problems myself, but our server does occasionally do strange things, including simply not working at all for a few minutes at a time....

I also wonder if this could possibly be a problem caused by your using Internet Explorer 8?  I've recently discovered that some functions here at CZ simply don't work with IE8 but do work perfectly with Firefox 3.  Is a puzzlement!

By the way, to conform to our rules for participants in these Forums, would you kindly go to the little tab in the middle of the page that says Profile, then scroll on down to the bottom of the screen and where it says Signature, put in something more or less like:

My CZ user page: http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/User:Your_CZName

This will enable your profile to be easily viewed by anyone who reads one of your messages here in the Forums. And thereby enables us, up to a point, at least, to make some sort of initial judgment about how much credence/deference/respect/belief/etc./etc. to give to anything you happen to post....

Thanks!

Hayford
