hi all

there is a policy that you shouldn't put external links to sites you own or are associated with.  so for example, on the external links page for free statistical software http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Free_statistical_software/External_Links  I don't list a link to my page, even though a google search  http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=free+statistical+software&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=  shows my page as one of the first (gsociology.icaap.org).  That's okay because there are plenty of others.

However, I'm writing an article on free statistical software  http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Free_statistical_software  and naturally I want to see if there are any reviews of those software.  Turns out there is really only one, which I listed in the article, plus adding a couple of websites that give very brief reviews of each package.  However, my page  http://gsociology.icaap.org/methods/soft.html  is the only place I can find that reviews the outcomes of those packages, showing they all give the same results, and therefore can  be considered, at least by me, to  be reliable or valid.  I've searched and cannot find anything else like my reviews.  I would think this is useful information but can't put it on the CZ page because I wrote it.  Right?

Similarly, CZ does not yet have an article about social change.  If I go to write one, I would consider my website to be useful.  It currently comes up third on a google search  http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=social+change&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=  (understanding the world today), our reports are scholarly cited many times (http://gsociology.icaap.org/these.html) and and our reports and website are listed by many institutions, including universities, associations, government divisions, so I would say that our site is considered legitimate at the very least.  But again, I can't refer to it because I own it.

Under what conditions can I refer to something I wrote or own or created?  Any?  None?  Any advice?

thanks

Hi Gene, this would be governed by our self promotion policy.  As you can see, there are exceptions under which you might qualify, but it would take some investigation to determine.  If what you say is true, you might look into having someone else help you add the links.

Your page does not seem self-promotional so I added it to the External links page for you.
