I have a draft article at [[locality of networks]], which reviews common usage among telecommunications carriers, although I have extended it to include some newer technologies where there are choices among physical standards.  Comment would be appreciated. As far as one reviewed publication, I can mention Chapter 7, "The Provider Edge: Layer 1, Layer 2, and the PSTN" in my book, Building Service Provider Networks (Wiley, 2002); I'm trying to find a single spot where this material may reside on the Web.

We don't have articles yet for [[personal area network]], [[local area network]], [[campus area network]], [[metropolitan area network]], [[wide area network]], etc. The "interplanetary Internet" is not at all a joke, but a thought experiment originally presented, I believe, by Vint Cerf. Avri Doria has consciously used Interplanetary Internet techniques for nomadic reindeer herders in Scandinavia; the project, being done at Lulea University of Technology, deals with situations in which the herders may have access every few weeks.

Before going out and developing articles for some of these more controversial definitions, I thought I'd throw it out for comment.
