Hey all--

At some point in the past, I felt like I knew most of the people with similar interests on Citizendium. (I doubt it was really true, but it felt true, you know?) Recently, though, it seems like every time I check out the Recent Changes list, someone I've never heard of is doing good work on something.

My question is this: short of keeping a notepad by your desk, does anyone have a good way of keeping track of people and what they do? It's getting to the point that when I want to ask someone a question, I first have to track down an article they've worked on, and then hop over to their User talk: page. Does anyone else have a better system?

Short answer: probably no, I daresay you've already thought of everything I have.

Well, I know egg-zackly how you feel.

Someone taught me I can make a shortcut by pasting user talk:user name in that space up at the top that begins http://en.citizendium.org/wiki
but of course to make that work, you have to know whether Brian's CZ user name is Brian Long, Brian P. Long, Brian P Long, Brian Peter Long, jr., B.P. Long, etc etc

The other thing I do is put people's user talk: pages on my watchlist, but I soon had to stop that because nowadays it makes for a very long watchlist.

Yeah, it's sad....

If it's just a private list you all are after, why not create a subpage of your user page (e.g. [[User:Aleta Curry/Users]]) and save links to everyone's User: (or User_talk:) pages there, along with a note of what they work on?

Or are you suggesting we set up a public directory, e.g. [[CZ:Citizens]], and have everyone add a link to their User: and User_Talk: pages, along with a one-line description of what they work on? I think that would be good (until the project gets huge, at which point it might not be workable).

To be honest, I only try to keep track of those people who I've done work or have exchanged words (not in a bad way) with.  After a while you just learn to associate people with what they do.

No, I think the bios generally do a good job of keeping track of what people are interested in. The issue has been finding and keeping track of people who are actually around and doing work. I'll try your other suggestion.

I tend to only keep track of people who are involved in the same areas of interest as me. I've been here since around June, and still feel like something of newbie  Smiley
